Foods Can Act Like Micro-"Medicine" at Cellular Level

Foods have been critical now more than ever in our world fighting for less toxic and healthier sources of nutrients to combat disease. Foods have often been looked upon as only a "macrobiotic" source for energy and for nutrients, but newer science shows us that "microbiotic" functions of foods due to their vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes, minerals and herbs can have wider implications to fight cancer disease effects that lead to heart disease and cancer .

Fish , particularly those that are cold-compressed or sea dwelling are greater sources for Omega 3 oils by help reducing cholesterol, improve brain phhysiology and help heart health. These omega 3 oils may be found in Tuna, Mackerel, Lake trout, Herring, SArdines, Albacore, Halibut and salmon. But, we are also finding sources in walnuts, and oils such as flaxseed, canaloa and soybeans. As heart disease continues to be the flax, number one killer, we might improve it by what we put into our mouths.

We find that other LDL-choleterol lowering micronutrients such as phytostanols and phytosterols may help lower LDL, the cholesterol more assocated with heart disease.

Most of us are wondering what level of fat show I keep my intake at. A good rule of thumb is 30% of total and keep the saturated fats at 10%. Be we are seeing that fats that are called trans fats from our favorite foods , especially fried, called trans fats are causing a lot of problems with premature disease and death. French fries, potato chips and many commercial snack foods contain these(crackers, biscuits, puffed snacks).

The method in which we cook foods may be having a great effect on us at the cellular level. This includes new studies from the National Cancer Institute(NCI) that has looked at grilling and frying foods as a method which protein and fat chemistry is changed in meats leading to toxic particles.

The change in proteins such as chicken and red meats makes a toxin called Heterocyclic Amines(HCA) and the fat dripping from cooking is called Polyaromatic-Hydrocarbons(PAHs). Thesed both act as carcinogens.

The oxidation of fats and proteins has been looked act as the cause of both heart disease and cancer the #1 and #2 causes of disease in our country.

Nano-Nutrition will explore the science of Nutrition and the micronutrients that they contain. These "Nano-Nutrition" can help destructive processes at the cell such as denaturing protein and destruction of DNA or cell membrane. These micronutrients is a "micro-medical" way of health that we take for granted when we eat certain items over time. The accumulative effect of them can lead to illness.

More fruits, vegetables and grains(cereals/fiber) contain many nutrients that can improve quality of life .
